Welcome to the SkillBricks blog
What we are building, why we are building it, and how the blog will work during the launch build.
This is the first post on the SkillBricks blog. We wanted to publish something real on day one of the blog's existence, partly to make sure the plumbing works, and partly because we think the story is worth telling as we build.
What SkillBricks is
SkillBricks is a verified-skills platform. Candidates prove their skills through real scenarios and live technical challenges in production-like environments. Hiring teams discover candidates by what they have built, and reach out only after they commit to making contact. Identity stays anonymous by default.
The positioning line:
Your wall speaks before your name does.
Why we're building it
Hiring is broken. Candidates self-report skills. Recruiters can't tell real from fake. 91% of recruiters report encountering candidate deception. CVs are claims without evidence.
The engineers who suffer most are the self-taught ones. Bootcamp graduates. Career switchers. Talented people from places where credentials aren't globally recognised. Their skills have outrun their CV.
SkillBricks is for them.
How this blog works
The blog is where we share what we're learning as we build the platform. Posts are published as we have something worth saying, not on a content-calendar cadence. Expect:
- Product thinking - how we make hard calls about scoring, fraud detection, privacy
- Technical deep-dives - how we built real-time Kubernetes challenges in a browser, what BullMQ looks like at our scale, why we chose self-hosted Vault over SaaS alternatives
- Hiring industry commentary - what we see that's broken, what we think could be fixed
- Launch updates - milestones along the 10-week plan
The blog is authored in version-controlled MDX - posts live in the same git repo as the product. Every post is reviewed like code.
What's next
Four more anchor posts are on the way, one each:
- How to prove your DevOps skills without a CKA
- The hidden cost of HackerRank-style assessments
- What recruiters actually look at in a candidate profile
- How we built real-time Kubernetes challenges in a browser
